• Details:  Always a big hit with collectors, this Sandwich clear pattern by Duncan Miller is spectacular.  Originally called "Early American Lace Glass", later called simply "Duncan Sandwich".  Duncan Miller is known as the best made, and highest quality glass, of all the brands that made Sandwich Pattern Glass.  The pattern consists of lacy swirls / scrolls and lots of stippling (the little dots).  Duncan made an entire tableware set plus many special serving dishes and other add-on pieces in this pattern, it was a very big seller for Duncan & Miller until 1955.  The "Sandwich" pattern was made by many different glass manufacturers, with slight variations in pattern for each maker.  Some of the best known are: Duncan Miller, Anchor Hocking Glass Co., Indiana Glass Co., and Westmoreland Glass Co.  If you're a collector, we hope these pieces are a happy find.  If you're looking for a beautiful, old style, cruet set for your table or buffet, you'll be very happy with these.

Duncan & Miller is a well-known glass manufacturing company founded by George Duncan in 1865 in Washington, Pennsylvania. By 1890, the company joined other glass companies to form the United States Glass Company.  In 1877, George Duncan died and his son, James E. Duncan, took over the company.  On November 15, 1900, the firm was officially incorporated as "Duncan and Miller Glass Company".  Duncan introduced their "Early American Lace Glass" in 1925. In the 1920's Duncan made their Sandwich pattern in crystal, green, amber and rose. Ruby was advertised in the early 1930's and chartreuse in 1949.  Duncan Miller closed in 1955, the Sandwich pattern was continued at U.S. Glass Company in their Duncan & Miller Division. In the 1960s, Indiana Glass Company acquired the Duncan moulds.  Duncan Miller Glass is so loved, that a National Duncan Glass Society was founded in 1975, there is  also a Duncan Glass museum.

Depression Glass is clear or colored translucent machine made glassware that was distributed free, or at low cost, in the United States and Canada around the time of the Great Depression starting in the 1920's but continued past the depression into the 1950's.   Food manufacturers and distributors put a piece of glassware in boxes of food, as an incentive to purchase. Some movie theaters, gas stations and other businesses handed out pieces as a thank you for shopping at their establishment.
